Mystery Biography
This activity combines speaking and writing activities. Students should work in pairs or groups of three. Create a table that describes someone.
For example:
Mystery Biography Chart
Then, create two or more versions of the table, deleting complementary information from each of the tables, so that each pair of students has only part of the information. The students then need to ask each other questions to complete the information about the person.
You will find a completed set of worksheets for this activity in photocopiable format at

As a follow-up, students should write a paragraph from the complete information. Go over questions with the whole class before setting students to work independently.
For lower-level classes, you could write the questions on the board as the class generates them.
